Around Whitsun, thousands of car tuning enthusiasts from all over Europe transform the shores of Lake Wörthersee and Lake Faaker See into a huge gathering place. Polished GTIs, tuned cars and the roar of engines set the scene – this legendary car meet has been a cult event for decades and a spectacle for onlookers.
Every June, Velden am Wörthersee is transformed into a mecca for sports car enthusiasts. Hundreds of Ferraris, Porsches, Lamborghinis and exquisite classic cars parade through the town in a grand motorcade – accompanied by the roar of engines, glamour and the backdrop of the lake. A must for anyone who loves beautiful cars and the charm of Lake Wörthersee.
Every summer, Klagenfurt becomes a triathlon hotspot: at Ironman Austria, thousands of athletes take the plunge into Lake Wörthersee – a 3.8 km swim, a 180 km cycle and, to finish, a marathon. The route takes participants right through the heart of the region, and the atmosphere along the route is legendary.
Every Wednesday and Friday from 9.30 pm, the River Drau in the heart of Villach is transformed into a spectacular stage: 35-metre-high fountains, coloured lights and powerful sound come together to create a multimedia water show. Between the Drau Bridge and the pedestrian footbridge, this roughly 25-minute spectacle is sure to give you goosebumps – free of charge, open-air and suitable for the whole family.
